Get to know the main fresh fruits consuming countries we serve
The world trade in fruit and vegetables is growing at a faster rate than production, and is focused on very specific areas with high purchasing power, such as the European Union and the United States. Spain plays a fundamental role in this context as the second world exporter, only surpassed by the North American giant and its large multinationals. The other side, that of buyers, is occupied by the US again, Germany, France, Holland, and the UK.
The European Union has a slight deficit in international trade in fruit and vegetables. The bulk of its imports are made up of fruits (with 54% of the total bought abroad), citrus fruits and vegetables, in this order.
The countries of origin of European imports of fruit and vegetables (including intra-community trade) are, as is logical and due to community protection, the members of the EU: Spain, Holland, France, Italy, Belgium and Germany. As extra-European exporters, South Africa and Costa Rica stand out.
The main Community importers are Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France and Belgium. The Netherlands and Belgium stand out for their re-export capacity, as they appear in the top positions, both as exporters and importers.
